SUMMARY
Observes, verifies, reports and records using closed circuit television. Monitors patrons and employees participating in gaming and non-gaming activities to verify compliance with Squaxin Island Gaming Enterprises System of Accounting and Internal Controls and guidelines set forth by the Squaxin Island Gaming Commission, the State Compact, the National Indian Gaming Commission and all other applicable health and safety regulations.
After successful completion of probationary/training period of 6 months, the employee will be re-classified as a Surveillance Observer with a corrected grade range of 6/7. (Successful completion criteria will be reviewed in new employee orientation.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned)
Properly operate the surveillance system, observe, analyze and report with the goal of protecting the Tribe’s/Company’s employees, patrons, assets, property and reputation.
Monitor security through constant observation of cameras, table games, Tribal Lottery System activity, cash transactions, hard and soft count procedures, food and beverage, entrances, exits, etc.
Watch participants in games such as dice or cards to detect cheating, identify rule violators and observe persons designated by superior.
Respond to calls on radio and telephones.
Accurately maintain logs of tapes, photos, radio and telephone calls, technicians in machines, etc.
Report irregularities immediately.
Observe all facets of casino operation to ensure compliance.
Monitor all high security areas for suspicious activities in order to report such activities and ensure safety of LCCR guests, employees, and property.
Learn basic policies and procedures for all casino departments, SIGE System of Accounting and Internal Controls, Squaxin Island/State of Washington Gaming Compact, National Indian Gaming Commission Minimum Internal Control Standards, and table games.
Comply with Internal Controls.
Enter and retrieve information from computer data base in order to utilize such information in surveillance activities.
Check all cameras, VCRs, DVRs, and operating equipment to ensure proper effectiveness in surveillance activities.
Participate in ongoing hands-on training and evaluation to develop skills.
Successfully complete oral and/or written examinations on random, continual basis.
Exhibit sound decision making with emphasis on motivating team and maintaining high department morale.
Maintain team environment with other departments’ staff while working independently for the overall benefit of the casino.
Adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies and maintain confidentiality.
Responsible for fire and emergency shut down procedures.
Perform shift work including nights, weekends and holidays.
Other duties as assigned.

There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS

A comprehensive knowledge of all games, i.e.: blackjack, craps, roulette, etc. and/or have training to maintain constant vigilance through surveillance preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate of Arts Degree and one year of Table Games experience; Casino Cashiering and/or Casino Security; and/or Regulatory/Investigative Experience, i.e. Law Enforcement or Military OR High School Diploma/GED and three years of Table Games experience; Casino Cashiering and/or Casino Security; and/or Regulatory/Investigative Experience, i.e. Law Enforcement or Military and/or retail/point of sales. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A valid Washington State Driver’s License and currently hold or be able to obtain Class III Gaming License.
OTHER
Professional business attire is required for this position. This is a training position for enrolled members of the Squaxin Island Tribe.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Individuals are required to provide surveillance from a small locked room.
