TANF Sponsored Event for all tribal and community members

January 30, 2012
To all tribal and community members,
Squaxin Island TANF is happy to announce the Building Strong Families Through Culture project in which we are encouraging all community members to attend weekly classes.

The project will begin on Thursday, February 2nd, and well be held each week from 3:00 to 5:00 in the community kitchen. Dinner will be provided.

Each month we will be focusing on two of the purposes of TANF:
1. Prevention of out of wedlock pregnancies
2. Formation and maintenance of two parent families

Each session will have guest speakers on these subjects and during these sessions we will be doing crafts. In the month of February we will be focusing the craft on loom beading. Other craft projects include: weaving, knitting, drum making, sewing and caving.

Please join the TANF of Family Services Department staff every Thursday from 3:00 – 5:00.

This is a TANF funded project, so all participants will complete an “At Risk” form. If you have any questions or need additional information please contact me at (360)432-3921,

or Shannon Bruff at (360)432-3961.

I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Vicki Kruger, Employment & Training Specialist

Workshop with Andrea Wilbur Sigo
Andrea Wilbur Sigo’s will host a two weekend workshop the 11-12 and 18-19 of February for gift making. The first weekend will have folks making bentwood red four corner boxes all for giveaway and the following weekend etched bevel glass pendants. The second weekend overlaps with Sa-Heh-Wa-Mish Days, but might still be doable for the participants. Andrea says that one goes fairly quickly with people making 4 or more pendants for giveaway.

People who are interested should contact Tina Kuckkahn who will give people directions to Andrea’s place. 360 867-5344.

This workshop should be a lot of fun and people will learn the process of putting together a bentwood box.
