SUMMARY
This position reports to the Tribal Gaming Director and is responsible for the financial compliance of Squaxin Island Gaming Enterprise’s (SIGE) compliance with: 1) the Tribal-State Compact (Compact); 2) the Tribal Gaming Ordinance and Regulations; 3) SIGE’s System of Accounting and Internal Control; 4) the National Indian Gaming Commission’s Minimum Internal Control Standards (NIGC MICS); and 5) other applicable agreements, laws, and regulations.
The Internal Auditor will develop and implement audit programs for each department of the casino and perform financial investigations as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement annual audit plan in conjunction with Internal Audit staff, covering SIGE’s accounting, internal control, and operational functions.
Write reports describing the results of audit reviews, findings requiring corrective action and recommendations for improvements.
Perform audit reviews of SIGE’s functions to evaluate compliance with generally accepted accounting principals, minimum internal control standards and the system of internal controls, the Compact and all applicable, State, and Federal regulations.
Train and assist Tribal Gaming Agents and Surveillance on accounting and internal control procedures and policies.
Perform case investigations as necessary, which may include written reports to the appropriate departments and/or outside agencies.
Assist with special projects as assigned by the Tribal Gaming Director,
Monitor departmental operating budget to include Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll for the Department.
Evaluate compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Other duties as assigned.

Must have tolerance and patience to deal with individuals, who are upset, angry, frustrated and/or intoxicated.
Must have the ability to:
Accomplish comprehensive and accurate audits.
Identify audit discrepancies requiring immediate corrective action and further audit attention.
Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Prepare comprehensive and concise reports and plans.
Analyze sensitive issues in an objective and realistic manner and furnish advice and consultation on audits dealing with these issues.
Exercise good judgment, make decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
Work independently and without supervision.
Must have experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in business administration or accounting with a minimum of 20 semester hours in accounting, OR Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in business administration or accounting) with a minimum of 20 semester hours in accounting and 2 years related job experience; OR Associate of Arts Degree (preferably in business administration or accounting) with a minimum of 20 semester hours in accounting and 4 years related experience; OR High School graduation or GED with a minimum of 20 semester hours in accounting and 6 years of related experience.
Also, three years experience in an audit capacity, preferably in a regulatory environment is required. Gaming experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Washington State Class III Gaming Certification.

The qualified candidate must possess a clear criminal history prior to employment and must maintain a clear criminal history during the period of employment. Failure to maintain a clear history is grounds for termination of employment. For purpose of this part, licensing requirements in RCW 9.46.075, shall apply.
