SUMMARY
These grant funded, half-time positions will serve as research assistants on the “Engaging Tribal Participation in Research through Priority Setting and Regulation” study, (Charlene Krise and Ron Whitener, Principal Researchers) responsible for conducting and documenting conversations with community members related to their interest for future research by the tribe. These individuals will provide support to the development of research guidelines and oversight processes and will participate in the development, review and publication of additional resources developed in this project to be used as a resource guide by other tribes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned).
Assist in the implementation of research to include conducting extensive interviews with community members regarding needs related to health.
Document the research collected through conversations with community members about health topics of interest for future research and for organizing and participating in health priority setting exercises.
Provide support as needed for the development of research guidelines and oversight of the process.
Attend and participate in research team meetings including giving progress reports on recruitment and data collection activities; take minutes and provide other support as needed.
Actively participate in the development, review and publication of additional resources developed as a result of data collected resulting in the development of policy and code templates to be used as a resource guide by other tribes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Successful applicant must have:
Community familiarity and awareness with prior experience working for or with a Tribe is highly desirable.
Willingness and ability to provide outreach and conduct interviews within the Tribal community in order to gather information for the research project.
Demonstrated ability to write clearly and succinctly, to speak convincingly and to understand and present data to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Computer proficiency including MS Office applications including MS Excel and Access preferred.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Ability to type accurately at a net speed of 45 words per minute or faster preferred.
EDUCATION &/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate of Arts Degree, OR High School Diploma and 2 years of related experience OR 4 years of related experience. Community knowledge and previous work in Native American communities is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Must maintain the utmost confidentiality in all work, cases and files pertaining to the projects and activities of this position. Any violation in this matter will result in termination of employment.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a current Washington State Driver’s License.
