SUMMARY
Provide scientific expertise on the status of water resources necessary to support the Treaty rights reserved by the Squaxin Island Tribe in 1854.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned:
1. Collect weather, surface and groundwater data critical to the assessment of Tribal water resources (weekly).
2. Analyze weather (daily) and surface water (monthly) data to produce stream flow reports (annually).
3. Incorporate surface and groundwater data and geophysical information into numeric groundwater models to analyze surface-groundwater interactions (periodically).
4. Revise quality assurance plan to ensure study designs and data collection/analysis are statistically sound and scientifically defensible (annually).
5. Coordinate investigations of water resources with other local, state and federal agencies (weekly).
6. Advise Tribal decision-makers on technical interpretation of water resource information (daily).
7. Represent the Tribe as a technical expert on water resource issues (daily).
8. Provide consultation and technical expertise to other Tribal programs as requested (monthly).
9. Provide guidance in the development and implementation of department work objectives associated with water resources (annually).
10. Perform other duties as required (daily).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Masters Degree and two years experience in a related field; OR Bachelors Degree and four years experience in a related field; OR Associates Degree and six years experience in a related field OR High School Diploma or GED and eight years experience in a related field.
Knowledge and experience with suspension stream discharge measurements will be important to fully assess instream flows.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver’s License and proof of insurance. LHG, LG, or PE desirable.

This position will require the employee to frequently work in outdoor weather conditions and occasionally work in high, precarious places. The noise level for this position is generally moderate.
