Scholarship Opportunities

American Indian Endowed Scholarship: Applicants must be financially needy students, with close cultural ties to an American Indian tribe, who will be enrolled full-time at a public of independent college or university in Washington. All qualified applicants will be considered; however priority is given to upper-division and graduate-level students. Application materials must be submitted as one complete unit. The application is available in electronic format on the HECB web site at http://www.hecb.wa.gov/paying/waaidprgm/aies.asp.

Native American Fish & Wildlife Society Pacific Region: Purpose of award is to assist Indian students pursuing a course of study leading toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in natural resources, fisheries, wildlife management, resource recreation, conservation law enforcement, or environments sciences or pursuing a degree of any type. There will be three awards of $1,000. Eligible applicants must be a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe (copy of enrollment card), must be a full time student at an accredited institution of higher education in a natural resource or related field. Applicant must have completed one academic year of study at an accredited institution of higher education in a natural resource or related field. Applicants must have an overall 2.00 GPA. Harvard University: Harvard University announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay NO TUITION. If you or you know of a family earning less than $40,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard University for free / no tuition and no student loans. Bonneville Power Administration’s (BPA) Summer 2006 Internship Program: BPA in collaboration with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) will provide academically gifted students with experience-based learning. BPA and AISES will establish up to four (4) Summer Student Internship positions for American Indian and Alaskan Native college students at BPA headquarters in Portland, OR, and or other selected locations within BPA’s service territory through collaboration with participating Indian Tribes in the region, funded by BPA and administered by AISES. In these positions, student interns will be exposed to a stimulating and challenging set of professional experiences encompassed by BPA’s Integrated Fish and Wildlife Program or in engineering of the power grid. American Indian Alaska Native Employees Association (AIANEA):
Two scholarships will be awarded to American Indian/Alaska Native students pursuing a degree in the natural resources field, which is or will be attending an accredited college or university. The scholarship application and information can be accessed on the AIANEA website at www.aianea.com.

Nordstrom Scholarship: The Nordstrom Scholarship will be awarded to five students in Washington and Alaska. The $10,000 scholarships will be paid over four years in equal installments of $2,500. Scholarships are for college-level attendance. All scholarship awards will be paid directly to the educational institutions by Nordstrom. The scholarship is offered to all incoming high school seniors (current juniors. Eligible students must have and maintain a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2./7 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale throughout their high school careers. Students must demonstrate the financial need for a scholarship. The student must also attend an accredited college-level institution during all years for which the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship is open to all majors. All applicants must reside and attend school in Washington or Alaska and not have a conviction of any crime. Only individuals who are officially enrolled in a “Federally Recognized Tribe” are eligible for the Health Professions Scholarship. You must submit for BIA-4432 that can be obtained from your Tribal Enrollment Office (Note: Tribal ID Cards WILL NOT be accepted). Only “Official” transcripts issued from the high school and/or college registrar’s office will be accepted (“copies” will not be accepted). WSECU: Washington State Employees Credit Union is pleased to offer financial assistance to students pursuing higher education. Twenty $2,000 scholarships are awarded for students who will attend four-year or graduate schools. Seven $1,000 scholarships will be granted for students seeking a two-year or vocational degree or certificate. Qualifications: WSECU is committed to the principles of diversity and welcomes any member, or member’s dependent, to apply for a WSECU Scholarship. The award may be used to fund almost any post-secondary education (college, vocational, public, and private). The student must attend a school on a full-time basis, and the degree sought must be the first of its type (first bachelor’s, first masters). Membership in credit unions other than WSECO does not satisfy eligibility for this program. The Adolf Van Pelt Foundation: Offers 40 to 50 grants ranging from $500 to $1500 to Native American graduates and under graduates pursing any career path. Contact Olga Patterson at Fargo-on Hudson NY 10555

The Native American Scholarship Fund: Programs in the fields of Math, Engineering, Science, Business, Education, Computer Science. Open to American Indians or Alaskan Natives (1/4 degree or more) enrolled as members of a federally recognized, state recognized, or terminated tribe. For graduate or undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university. The programs give out 208 awards annually. Contact Lucille Kelley, Director of Recruitment,for an application. Wells Fargo Scholarships
Wells Fargo has established a $300,000 endowment to support Native American scholarships for college and graduate students from tribal nations across the United States. The Wells Fargo Scholarship for Native American College Students will be administered by the American Indian Graduate Center. Scholarships will be available for up to four qualifying students from tribal nations who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and are majoring in the gaming and hospitality industries, business and finance.
